Event in U.S. University Condemns Pakistan’s Rights Abuses in Balochistan

WASHINGTON, DC: Leading experts and politicians at an event on Friday have criticized the Pakistani government’s unabated human rights abuses in Balochistan and called upon the U.S. administration to urge Islamabad to immediately improve its relations with the Baloch population. The School of Public Policy at George Mason University organized the discussion on the state of human rights in the gas-rich province of Balochistan. Anwar Iqbal, the Washington correspondent of Pakistani newspaper Dawn, moderated the event.
“Balochistan is Pakistan’s forgotten and neglected region. We have to come up with events like this one again and again to keep drawing the attention of the international community toward the continued violation of human rights in Balochistan by the Pakistani security forces,” said T. Kumar, Amnesty International’s Director for International Advocacy.
