Press Release
Toronto, 06/01/2011 – Baloch Human Rights Council (Canada) expressed deep sorrow over the targeted killing of Prof. Saba Dashtyari in Quetta today. Prof. Dashtyari was shot dead by unknown assailants, allegedly members of the military intelligence death squad, while he was on his way to Balochistan University where he taught Islamic history and theology.
BHRC (Canada) condemned the cold-blooded murder of Prof. Dashtyari in the strongest words and stated that this humble man of great scholarship gave his life for what he genuinely believed in – freedom of Baloch nation. Prof. Dashtyari chose the life of a revolutionary scholar and his martyrdom did not come as a surprise to many of his students and colleagues.
In the statement, BHRC (Canada) paid tribute to his rich contribution of establishing the first ever Baloch research and reference library, a large collection of books, historic letters, and documents to preserve the national heritage and culture. The statement concluded that Prof. Dashtyari would always be remembered as the sage of the independence movement and a revolutionary with a book in his hand.
