Complete strike in Balochistan against killings of missing persons

QUETTA: Complete shutter-down strike was observed in major parts of Balochistan on Friday against the recovery of bullet-riddled dead bodies of Baloch missing persons. It may be mentioned here that bullet-riddled corpses of Baloch missing persons Arafat s/o Ibrahim, resident of Mand, and Abdul Karim s/o of Mohammad Hassan, resident of Pulanabad area of Tump, were found in Murghab area of Turbat on Thursday. All shops, banks, schools, markets, commercial establishments and restaurants remained closed during the strike and life remained paralysed in these areas as people preferred to stay indoors for want of security. The strike was also observed in Turbat, Mand, Hushap, Tump, Panjgur, Awaran and adjourning areas. A large number of personnel of law-enforcement agencies were deployed in these areas to avert any untoward incident. Meanwhile, Baloch Students Organisation (BSO-Azad) held a protest demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club on Friday against the recovery of two bullet-riddled dead bodies of Baloch students. The protesters were carrying placards, portraits of missing persons and banners in their hands in support of their demands. They were chanting full-throated slogans against the government and its functionaries. “Stop extra-judicial killings of Baloch youth,” they shouted. “We received over 200 bodies and they were killed in illegal custody of the government functionaries,” they alleged. They demanded the United Nations to intervene in the matter and play its due role to stop ‘state terrorism’ in Balochistan. staff report
